DAIS starts fundraising for new facility

In demand Domestic Abuse Intervention Services launches capital campaign

Staffers at Dane County’s only shelter for victims of domestic violence say they need a new facility.

Wednesday Domestic Abuse Intervention Services started its capital campaign to raise money for a new shelter off of Fordem Avenue.

DAIS officials said  the new facility would more than double the number of beds. The center’s location would also be publicly known, a departure from DAIS’s current policy.

“That not only helps to build awareness of the issue and to bring it out of the shadows but also gives the community an opportunity to be more supportive of domestic violence victims and they have actually been shown to be safer,” said Shannon Barry with DAIS.

DAIS still needs to raise $5 million of the $7 million needed to start construction.
