DA to address Whitehorse Middle School incident; mother says teacher abused child

The Dane County District Attorney’s Office is continuing its investigation into an alleged incident at Whitehorse Middle School.

Mikiea Price said her daughter’ braids were ripped out by a teacher during an altercation in the hallway. Price said her daughter did not have any previous encounters with the teacher prior to the incident.

“We had a child that stated she was abused, we had a teacher witness that my child was abused and we also have the video of half of the incident that shows my child was abused,” Price said. “This man still hasn’t been arrested. It’s taken three weeks of just runaround from each agency telling me they had failed this kid in so many ways.”

“It makes me feel like me and my kid don’t even deserve a chance”

Price said since this incident, she’s cooperated patiently with investigators, but said this process has been “unfair from the beginning of the incident. When I arrived to the school, they never called the police, they never called Child Protective Services, they didn’t even notify me.”

Price’s daughter has since returned to school.

“The DA is reviewing the process,” Price said. “He is interviewing me and investigating me as if I’m the perpetrator. He wants to know have I ever been in Child Protective Services, have I ever abused my kid. The whole process is just super stressful, super hurtful. It makes me feel like me and my kid don’t even deserve a chance. All this evidence that shows this man abusing my daughter and nothing is even done.”

The Dane County District Attorney’s Office held a news conference regarding the Whitehorse Middle School incident Tuesday afternoon and declined to charge the teacher.
