Cute as a Button

If You’re a woman whose look is more eclectic-chic, less polished ingénue, the Velvet Button is for you. Monroe Street’s newest boutique has a lovely hometown feel with a refined aesthetic. Airy window displays inspire shoppers with breezy ensembles, and glass jewelry cases sparkle with vintage-inspired pieces.
The store is a collaboration of friendship and style, and the name is fitting—it refers to “something nice and comfortable,” says Karen Graeve, who along with Rhonda Dittberner owns the boutique that opened in late February. The store is a departure for both women, who have experience in the interior design and nonprofit fields, respectively.
Graeve and Dittberner look for “small, indie designers that are up and coming, and not represented here,” says Dittberner. Garments like a wrap that can be worn eight different ways, bohemian-luxe tops, classic layering pieces and colorful, peppy printed tops are all part of the mix. Even better are the prices—clothing ranges from $40 to $178.
The boutique is a pleasant way to find your next favorite closet go-to.
“We have a unique style that’s different,” says Dittberner. “We go by what we like—and we hope others like it, too.”
