Customs officials seize 108 phony Super Bowl rings

A shipment of 108 counterfeit replica Super Bowl rings was recently seized in Philadelphia, federal authorities said Tuesday.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said the rings were found in an express consignment parcel that arrived June 18 from Hong Kong marked as alloy rings.
The rings represented many past Super Bowl champions, including the most recent in the Super Bowl LII champion Philadelphia Eagles.
Noting the “poor craftsmanship” on the rings, trade enforcement officers detained them to verify their authenticity with the NFL. The rings were seized once the NFL confirmed they were fakes.
Custom officials said an authorized replica of a Super Bowl ring can cost $10,000, but counterfeit ones like those seized in Philadelphia can be found on the internet for around $25.
