Left-hander Travis Wood scattered three hits and struck out seven in seven-plus scoreless innings as Chicago blanked Cincinnati.

Wood (1-1) worked into the eighth inning before allowing two base runners with none out and departing.

Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo clubbed his first home run of the season — a two-run shot in the first inning — and center fielder Dexter Fowler had two hits and scored twice. Shortstop Starlin Castro went 2-for-3 with a run.
