Credit, debit cards now OK at all DMV branches

50-cent fee added to card transactions
Credit, debit cards now OK at all DMV branches

Customers can use their credit or debit card to pay for services at any Division of Motor Vehicles branch in Wisconsin.

DMV first started accepting credit and debit cards in February at 15 branches. Officials said all 91 statewide service centers are now equipped with that option.

Currently, DMV accepts most debit cards, as well as MasterCard, American Express and Discover credit cards. The agency is working with VISA on some programming changes in order to accept its credit cards soon as well.

A convenience fee of at least 50 cents will be added to all card-based transactions. That fee will go to a fund that helps pay for highway and other transportation improvements.
