County starts effort to clean up lakes, streams, waterways

“Take a Stake in the Lakes,” an effort to keep Dane County lakes clean, kicked off Friday.

The effort is entering its 25th year.

Volunteers rolled up their sleeves to clean the lakes, streams and waterways.

Dane County Executive Joe Parisi launched the cleanup at Olin-Turville Park.

“(People) are coming together to care about our lakes, and then look behind them at the view (we) have of our downtown and our capitol over the lake. It really sums up why we all care so much about our lakes and how important they are to our community,” Parisi said.

Next week, volunteers will be cleaning up parts of lakes Waubesa, Mendota and Kegonsa.
