Construction on highways 73, 12/18 starts near Cambridge, Deerfield

Nightly interstate lane closures to start Monday

Construction at the intersection of highways 73 and 12/18 near Cambridge and Deerfield has started as part of a project to improve safety and efficiency in the area, according to a release.

The project is part of last year’s reconstruction of Highway 73 from Interstate 39/90 to Highway 12/18, officials said.

Highway 12/18 will remain open to one lane of traffic in each direction, but periodic daytime and nighttime flagging operations are scheduled on Highway 12/18, according to the release. During the construction work, Highway 73 will be closed and detoured at various times.

All lane restrictions and work schedules are dependent on weather, officials said.

The $13.1 million project is expected to be done in November, according to the release.

Once it is completed, Highway 12/18 traffic will travel over Highway 73, and to improve safety at the intersections, left turns will be eliminated from Highway 12/18 to Highway 73, and only right turns to and from Highway 12/18 will be allowed.
