A cooking fire in a far west side condominium has displaced a family and caused $100,000 in damage, Madison Fire Department officials said.

MFD crews responded to a report of a structure fire at 3138 Dorchester Way around 9 a.m., according to a release. A ladder crew on the way to the location reported seeing black smoke showing from McKee Road.

All occupants and pets of the condominium unit had gotten out without injuries, officials said.

The fire was contained to a single unit, and started in the kitchen area, according to the release. There was heavy smoke and fire damage throughout the unit, with very light smoke damage in an adjoining unit.

One family has been displaced as a result of the fire, authorities said. Damages are estimated at $100,000, and investigators have determined the cause to be an accidental cooking fire.
