Competency hearing ordered for attempted murder suspect

MADISON, Wis. — Officials ordered a competency evaluation Thursday for attempted murder suspect Edward Matthews, after he allegedly shot his then-girlfriend 10 times.
Matthews, 42, was brought into custody after a nine-hour standoff with police outside his home in Monona, after official said he attempted to murder his girlfriend. Matthews is charged with first-degree attempted homicide and six other felonies.
