Cold weather to turn even colder

Temperatures in coming week to be coldest in SW Wis. in years

MADISON, Wis. — The weather is cold and it will be turning even colder as we head through the upcoming week.

Wind chill advisories are in effect through midday Thursday for southwestern Wisconsin.  Wind chills as cold as minus 25 are expected. Actual air temperatures will be as cold as the single digits below zero.

Light snow and flurries will be ending for much of southern Wisconsin overnight. The exception will be the counties near Lake Michigan, where lake-effect snow is likely. The southeastern part of the state, including the Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha areas, may see another 2 to 5 inches of lake-effect snow through Thursday.

Temperatures will warm briefly on Saturday, with highs in the 20s midday.

Temperatures and wind chills will plummet Sunday through early next week. Lows will be in the negative teens to near 20 degrees below zero, and wind chills will be as cold as minus 45.

Wind chill warnings will be likely early next week if the cold air stays on track for Wisconsin. During a wind chill warning, frostbite and hypothermia can occur in as few as 10 minutes.

Next week’s temperatures will likely be the coldest southern Wisconsin has experienced in years.
