Cloyce W. Bailey

Cloyce W. Bailey, age 83, of Janesville, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017, at Mercy Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born May 30, 1934, in Floral, Arkansas, the son of the late Rev. Roy and Alice (Sample) Bailey. After high school in Floral, Cloyce married Carolyn White on Sept. 25th, 1954. They made their way to Janesville, Wisconsin, where Cloyce worked for General Motors. He was drafted in 1958 and served in the US Army, 3rd Armored Division, stationed in Germany. After being honorably discharged in 1960 he returned to GM where he worked many years in the cushion room and later as a troubleshooter in final repair, retiring in 1983. Cloyce was widely known at GM for his skill in electronics, winning awards for creating new tools and improving designs. His second career was driving coach for Van Galder Bus. Carolyn joined him for many extended trips, an adventure they both enjoyed immensely. Cloyce was talented in many ways: he reupholstered furniture, car and motorcycle seats; designed and built the family’s home in Afton; and was an all-around handyman. Cloyce was among a small group instrumental in building the baseball diamonds for Rock Summer Baseball in Afton, WI and coached his sons’ teams for many years. “Mr. B.” was known to many young ballplayers for a steady hand and an encouraging word. Family was always his priority, his granddaughters bringing his greatest joy!

Cloyce is survived by his loving wife and partner of 62 years, Carolyn; three sons: Kelly (Miriam) of Janesville, Kevin of Verona, and Joel (Nancy) of Janesville; and three granddaughters; Katelyn, Rachel and Bethany. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant brother; and his in-laws, Dr. William and Opal (Harvey) White.

A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017, at OAKHILL CHRISTIAN CHURCH with Pastors Aaron Gonzalez and Jerry Dean officiating.
