The Madison Fire Department welcomed a new fire station to the city on Monday.

Fire Station No. 13 opened on Town Center Drive on Madison’s far east side.

MFD Chief Steven Davis said response times before the station used to be 10-12 minutes, but with the new location that’s been cut down to three minutes.

“It’s huge because fire doubles in size every 30 seconds that it burns,” Davis said. “So it’s huge to get four fully-trained, fully-equipped people on the scene in a matter of minutes.”

The fire department is now working on Fire Station No. 14, which will also be on the east side on Femrite Drive.

Davis said he hopes Fire Station No. 14 will open in about three years.
