City names developer in Green initiative

Company to explore possibilities of Green development, technology

MADISON, Wis. — A developer has been named to explore the development of a center geared towards feature green technologies and being a place for the community to engage in green best practices, according to a release.

City of Madison officials selected Baum Development to explore the development of the Madison Sustainability Commerce Center, according to the release. The MSCC will be a showcase building feature green technology, as well as be a center for the green and innovation community to share best practices, network and provide an active space that fosters tenant success.

Baum Development will look into what types of tenants would be interested in the new development, as well as designs and technologies that should be used in the building, officials said. Madison’s Capitol East District is being considered as a location for the project, but a specific site has not been finalized.

“We are eager to break ground on this innovative project,” Mayor Paul Soglin said in the release. “At this point we are looking for collaborators and tenants to help shape this important effort.”

The MSCC project will be funded by a $300,000 grant the city received through the Capital Region Sustainable Communities initiative of the Capital Area Regional Planning Commission, according to the release. CRSC is funded by the Sustainable Communities Regional Planning Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The contract with Baum Development will use about $75,000 of the grant, according to the release.
