A Monroe firefighter is on leave during a “personnel investigation,” the city said in a news release Thursday afternoon.

City of Monroe officials said Monroe Deputy Fire Chief Lane Heins was placed on paid administrative leave Thursday by Monroe Fire Chief Dan Smits in connection with “a personnel matter pending further investigation.”

The city said Heins’ leave is not a disciplinary action, and no charges have been filed as of Thursday.

“No findings have been made concerning any issues,” the city said in a news release. The administrative leave will continue until further notice.

City of Monroe officials said details of the investigation wouldn’t be released Thursday. Heins’ duties will be reassigned while he’s on leave and the fire department’s operations won’t be adversely impacted, the release said.
