Charles Riegert

MCFARLAND-Charles Riegert, age 78, unexpectedly passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at home. He was born on Dec. 23, 1934, in Underhill, the son of Gustave and Clara (Lauersdorf) Riegert. Charles graduated from the Wisconsin School for the Deaf, where he was inducted in the school’s Hall of Fame. He worked for the UW for more than 30 years. He was a member of NAD, WAD, and MAD, and was also a longtime member of Our Savoir Deaf Lutheran Church. Charles enjoyed fishing and playing cards with family and friends. He loved sports, and also enjoyed puzzles and gardening.
Charles is survived by his two children, Jeff (Ann) Riegert of McFarland and Tammy (Pete Kern) Marnocha of Fremont; their mother, Maryann Riegert of McFarland; four grandchildren, Shantel Halverson, Casey Marnocha, Nicole and Jessica Riegert; and niece, Wanda Witt. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ervin Riegert; and a sister, Alice Klein.
Funeral services will be held at OUR SAVIOR DEAF LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3110 Dairy Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 17, 2013, with Pastor John Reinke presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church. Charles was a very loving father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
