Charles James Fiss, Jr.

Charles James Fiss, Jr. age 81, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 3, 2017. He was born in Oshkosh on June 11, 1936, the son of Charles and Elizabeth (Morneau) Fiss, Sr. Charles married Mary Sue Link on August 8, 1959 At St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bear Creek.
Charles was a proud alumnus of Notre Dame University. He worked for 20 years in public administration at the State Department of Health and Social Services. He was co-owner of a health care accounting computer company.
Charles was a devoted husband and father. When his parents passed away, he and Sue became the glue that kept the extended Morneau and Fiss family together. They cherish the memories of games, fun and laughter-filled gatherings at Thanksgiving and Fourth of July holidays. Charles loved golfing often with family and friends. He was blessed with a lifelong friendship of 75 years with Bill Staudenmaier, who he met at camp when he was 10. The two families had many adventures together over the years.
Charles is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sue; children, Charlie, Joe (Holly) and Kathy (Kris) Kessenich; four grandchildren, Gwen, Nathan, Nell and Nicolle Kessenich; brother and sisters, Bill (Pat) Fiss, Mary (Jerry) Colletti, Elizabeth Watson; sister-in-law Judy Fiss; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jessica Lynn Fiss; and two brothers, David and John.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 401 S. Owen Drive, Madison, with Father Bill Uppena and Bishop Robert F. Morneau presiding and Monsignor. Richard Colletti concelebrating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Bear Creek. Visitation will be from 4-6 pm on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Ryan Funeral Home, 5701 Odana Road. Memorials may be directed to St. Mary’s Hospital for their Chapel.
