Charlene M. Peat

MADISON-Charlene M. Peat, age 79, passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2012, at Agrace HospiceCare after a long illness.

Charlene was born on Sept. 18, 1932, in Madison, the daughter of Violet and Matthew Gratz. After attending East High School, she worked briefly at Oscar Mayer’s before becoming a loving and devoted mother. Charlene married the love of her life, William Peat, on July 22, 1977. She loved car racing, camping, and shopping (especially craft shows). Charlene’s favorite pastime was spending time with her family, whom she loved dearly.

She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl (Steve) and Jana (David); son, Merlin; grandsons, Willy (Stephanie) and John; great-grandson, Will; and great-granddaughter, Maylee. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William, sons, Michael and Raymond; daughter, Cindy Sue; granddaughter, Becky; and two sisters, Rose and Kay.

Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2012. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday. Memorials may be made in Charlene’s name to Dane County Humane Society or to Special Olympics.
