Cats, guinea pigs found dead in park, police say

Police in Eau Claire are looking for help in identifying who is responsible for mutilating and killing two cats found in a park.

Officers were called Feb. 13 to Demmler Park on a report of two cats found dead in the woods. Police said the cats had been mutilated. Both cats were adults, well cared for and believed to be domesticated or indoor cats, according to police.

One of the cats was a multicolored calico female. The other cat was a gray longer-haired male. Neither was spayed or neutered.

After the cats were discovered, police found a container holding 21 dead guinea pigs inside in the same area where the cats were found. Police said all the animals had been recently killed.

The Wisconsin State Crime Lab and the FBI have been asked to assist in the investigation.

Anyone who knows the owner of the cats or someone who might have access to a large number of guinea pigs is asked to call 715-839-6281.
