Cat causes New Orleans power outage

Thousands in New Orleans were left without power Monday morning after a cat came into contact with electrical utilities, officials with Entergy New Orleans said.
The outage, which affect 7,556 customers, according to United Press International, happened when a cat, “got into a substation that feeds parts of Uptown, Central City, Mid-City, and the CBD, and caused a flash when it came into contact with our equipment,” an Entergy tweet said.
The company quickly worked to restore power, saying that it was a rare occurrence, and safety measures are in place to prevent such incidents from happening.
Power was restored to all customers by 11:30 am.
“When this happens, the animals unfortunately do not survive the high-voltage contact,” Entergy said.
