Carol A. Winkers

Carol A. Winkers, age 69, of Highland, passed away on Friday, June 1, 2012 from injuries suffered in a fall. The former Carol McCullick was born on December 3, 1942 near Gays Mills to Otto and Marie (Reistad) McCullick. She married Donald Winkers of Highland on November 25, 1961. The couple farmed near Highland until moving to the village in 1984. Donald preceded her in death on July 7, 1991. Carol then worked as a cook at the Red Zone and Dodge Point Country Club. She also worked at Lands’ End where she had been honored for 30 years of service. Carol’s life revolved around her family and friends, whether traveling, camping or just enjoying lunch together. Her favorite pastimes included golfing, gardening and growing flowers, watching hummingbirds, movies and reading a good book. She was a member of Ss. Anthony & Philip Parish and the CCW. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mryna Gilomen.
Carol is survived by seven children, Pam (Kenneth) Pospichal of Muscoda Kevin of Poynette; Karen (Jim) Scullion of Highland; Tim (Lori Salis) of Mt. Horeb; Terry “Butch” (Tonna) of New Glarus; Lisa (Jim) Smelzer of Mt. Horeb and Brenda (Randy) Prestwood of Avoca; 17 granddchildren, Britni (Bobby) Aschliman; Ryan Derek and Zach Pospichal; Justin Winkers; Jessica Standorf; Jessie, Ben (Alix Einerson) and Trent Scullion; Dustin and Siera Winkers; Teagan Winkers; Morgan and Mackenzie Smelzer; Lance Winkers and Brittany and Dalton Prestwood; five great grandchildren, Jackson, Mason and Tuker Scullion and Will and Carson Aschliman; six siblings, Derald (Arlene) McCullick; Betty Bomkamp; Kay (Arnold) Swenson; Vester (Eileen) McCullick; Judy (George) Clark and Jerry Lavon (Mary) McCullick as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at Ss. Anthony & Philip Catholic Church in Highland. Fr. Kenneth J. Frisch will officiate with burial in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and again on Wednesday after 10:00 A.M.
