Carl Bongard
MARSHALL/FITCHBURG- Carl “Sonny” Bongard, age 80, passed away peacefully at his home on January 12, 2013.
Carl was born in Madison, the son of Carl W. Bongard and Anna Storteig on May 12, 1932. Carl also served in the Army. He then worked for the Madison Metropolitan Sewage District for 44 years as a plant operator. After his retirement, he spent as much time fishing and hunting as he could.
Carl married Margaret Conway on October 20, 1962. Married for 50 years, they raised two children and enjoyed their four grandchildren. You could always find Carl enjoying time with his grandkids while teaching them all about archery, fishing and guns. Carl spent many hours watching his grandkids shoot archery on youth leagues or through 4H and was always very proud of them. He also enjoyed watching his grandkids play basketball.
Carl had many interests over the years, first and far most was his passion for hunting and fishing, making sure he passed all of what he knew onto his kids and grandkids. Carl was also and artist and loved woodworking.
Carl in survived by his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Conway; daughter, Mary (Ron), of Marshall; sisters, Florence Dederich, of Madison, Betty Reible, of Madison; brother, Richard (Linda), of Madison; four grandchildren, Becky (Alan), Tiffany, Crystal, Luke; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patty Waite; brothers-in-law, Bud Dederich, Joe Waite, Barney Reible; nephew, Jeff Waite; and son, Steve Bongard.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N. Sherman Ave., with the Rev. Paul Anderson, presiding. Inurnment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home.
Thanks to all the doctors and nurses at Dean Clinic and St. Mary’s that have taken such good care of Carl over the years. Also, thank you to the people at Hospice that helped make the end of his life comfortable.
Dad, go and enjoy eternal life as you have no more pain to hold you back.
