Burglars take items, car while homeowners sleep, officials say

Black Earth residents called police early Thursday morning after someone entered their home and stole items, including their car, while they were sleeping, according to a release.

The burglary happened sometime between 10:30 p.m. Wednesday and 3 a.m. Thursday on Blue Mounds Street in Black Earth, officials said.

The homeowners told deputies someone entered their home through an unlocked garage door while they were sleeping.

The burglars took items from inside the home, then left in the victim’s 2016 Chevrolet sedan, according to the release.

The stolen vehicle was later found by Wisconsin State Patrol abandoned in the Wisconsin Dells area, officials said.
