Burglar gets in through unlocked door, police say

A robber took off with a laptop after getting into the Spring Street home of two University of Wisconsin students through an unlocked ground-floor balcony door, according to a release from Madison police.

The women, ages 20 and 22, told police that they went to bed early Friday morning after studying late, and before they fell asleep, they heard something in the living room and went to investigate.

The women said they found a man with one of their laptop computers tucked under his arm. Police said the man ran as the women called for police.

The women said they believe that the man was in their home for about 30 seconds.
