Brian Cedric Nelson of Westby died Wednesday, June 27th 2012 as a result of a farm accident. He was born September 17, 1954 in Readstown, Wisconsin to Cecil and Sadie Nelson.

Brian Married Barb Berg of Chaseburg. Together they raised their daughter Nicole Rae Nelson Lineberry in Viroqua. They farmed together and he later went on to work for NCR. They later divorced. Brian and his brother Roger started the Express Lube, an auto repair shop in Viroqua.

Brian was a compassionate man. He was married to Vernel Vesbach for 17 glorious years, as Brian would refer to it. Together they raised Tiffany and Travis Cade in Westby, Wisconsin. Many knew Brian as “Big Guy,” a nickname Tiffany and Travis gave to him as kids. Brian and Vernel were entrepreneurs; together they started Nelson’s Caring Ride, a transportation business for the elderly and mentally ill which operated for 10 years. They later started Assisted Care Inc., which is still in operation. In 2004 they managed the Grower’s Produce Auction in Cashton; which Brian was still managing.

Brian and his nephew Scott Allen Davis ran a greenhouse business outside of Westby, Ski Hill Greenhouses, where they raised tomatoes and flowers. Brian was a friendly man, respected by many for this easygoing personality, his sense of humor and his dedication to help anyone in need.

Brian was an active man and an avid Packer and NASCAR fan. He enjoyed playing softball, golfing, riding motorcycles, gardening, traveling and canoeing. He enjoyed being around people and loved life to the fullest.

Brian is survived by his best friend, Vernel Vesbach; his 2 daughters Nicole Rae Nelson (Mike) Lineberry and Tiffany Cade; along with his son Travis Cade (Shelley Vanvoorhees); grandsons Bailey Nelson and Avery Lineberry; granddaughter Mollie Lineberry; sister Shirley Mae (Daniel) Davis; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers: Duane, Ronald, Roger, Terry, David; his sister Geraldine; his parents Cecil and Sadie; and his great nephew Indigo.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, July 2, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Viroqua with burial in the Viroqua Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home, 708 S. Hwy 14 in Westby. Friends may also call at the church on Monday after 9:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family has requested memorials.
