Khris Davis' RBI double is the difference

CHICAGO — Khris Davis broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring double in the seventh inning as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field Monday night, 3-1.

The Brewers took the lead in the second inning as Mark Reynolds hit his 20th home run of the season.

The Cubs tied it in the fifth when Chris Coghlan doubled to right to score Justin Ruggiano.

But Davis’ double to deep left drove in Scooter Gennett with what proved to be the winning run in the Brewers seventh inning.

The Brewers added an insurance run in the ninth when Scooter Gennett’s single drove in Aramis Ramirez.

Starting pitcher Yovani Gallardo was solid in seven innings of work allowing just six hits and one run. Gallardo (7-6) didn’t walk a batter and struck out six.

Francisco Rodriguez pitched the ninth for his 36th save of the season.

Cubs starter Jake Arietta (6-4) was also effective in his seven-and-two-thirds innings, giving up five hits and two runs, walking one and striking out four.
