Boots, heavy coats needed for trick or treating

Several inches of snow fall in northern Wis.

SULLIVAN, Wis. — Heavy coats and maybe some boots are needed for Halloween trick or treating this year in northern Wisconsin.

Residents there are shoveling or blowing snow off their driveways and sidewalks as costumed children make their way to their doorsteps in search of Halloween treats.

The National Weather Service has recorded 8 inches of snow in the Vilas County community of Winchester. Three to four inches of snow is on the ground in Eagle River and Manitowish Waters.

A strong cold front brought freezing temperatures to Wisconsin along with gusty northwesterly winds. Gustsof up to 45 mph are blowing through eastern Wisconsin. Forecasters are expecting the coldest night of the season Friday when temperatures should dip into the teens.
