The body of a missing 23-year-old from La Crosse was found in the Wisconsin River Thursday afternoon, according to a release.

A person kayaking on the Wisconsin River (Lower Dells) reported finding a body just before 12:30 p.m., police said. The body was later identified as John Dwyer.

Dwyer was in Wisconsin Dells with friends Saturday afternoon to celebrate several birthdays but did not return home. He was last seen in the downtown area of Wisconsin Dells Saturday afternoon.

Dwyer’s body was found on the river bank under a rocky cliff about 1,800 feet south east of the Kilbourn Dam in the city of Wisconsin Dells, according to the release.

Dwyer’s injuries appear to be consistent with a fall, officials said. The Columbia County Medical Examiner’s Office is assisting the investigation.
