Board Puts Test Well Decision On Hold

Madison’s Public Works Board will soon vote on whether to spend a $100,000 to fund the drilling of a test well on the southeast side.

The board delayed the vote on Wednesday night.

Some area residents said the test site is a waste of money as it’s too close to one drilled three years ago that turned up contaminants.

The board asked several questions during Wednesday’s meeting and said they needed more information from water utility staff and a hired consultant before they could make a decision.

“More data on groundwater flow and where any potential contamination would be coming from and going,” said Rob Phillips, city engineer.

The board will take up the issue again in two weeks.
