Blood drive held in honor of Lodi teen killed in crash

LODI, Wis. — A blood drive held Monday in honor of a Lodi teen who was killed last year in a car crash collected 53 units of blood, enough to save 159 lives.

The Lodi FFA hosted the blood drive at Lodi High School in memory of Sierra Skarda, who was a junior at the school when she was killed in a crash on her way to school in January 2016.

A longtime family friend said she donated blood as a way to support Skarda’s family.

“They do whatever they can to keep Sierra’s memory alive,” friend Trish Wickham said. “It’s something she did, so it had meaning for her. So it’s what they do. They do a lot of things to keep her memory alive. They are just great people.”

The Lodi FFA hosts three blood drives each year, with a normal blood drive averaging about 35 donors.
