Black Friday deals bring holiday shoppers to Hilldale

MADISON, Wis. — Holiday shopping was in full swing for Black Friday at Hilldale.

The shopping center’s general manager Nancy Horn said foot traffic seems to be busier this year compared to other years.

“It feels a little busier than previous years,” said Horn. “A lot of the retailers have really tremendous sales this year.”

“When I pulled in, there were a couple of lines waiting outside the doors,” said Miki Yount, a manager at Twigs.

“People are really just coming out and making the most of it,” said Horn. “Enjoying it.”

While Black Friday shopping is known for the big retailers and the big savings, the management at Hilldale said it’s important to remember the small businesses here as well.

“Over half of our stores are locally owned,” said Horn. “Supporting small businesses on Small Business Saturday, and obviously throughout the whole season and the whole year is very important to us.”

As the store manager at Twigs, a local retailer at Hilldale, Yount says the chaos of holiday shopping looks different for this small business.

“Since I’ve been at Twigs I feel like my mental health during the holiday season has been a lot better,” said Yount. “It’s honestly just a fun day for our staff and our customers instead of a stressful shopping day.”

It’s the hope of all of those behind these deals to help people find something that shines for their loved one and for this community.

“We hope that everyone supports all the small businesses in Hilldale,” Yount said. “It builds a great sense of community and gives back to Madison.”
