BJ Mikkelson

OREGON, Wis. — BJ Mikkelson, age 76, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2022. He was born on September 8, 1946, in Stoughton, WI the son of Alvin and Martha (Nelson) Mikkelson. BJ attended Stoughton High School and then served his country in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1968. On June 3, 1972, he was united in marriage to the former Marilyn Grunnet. BJ served on the Oregon Police Department and later with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections at Oakhill until retiring. He loved being outside, working on old cars and tractors. BJ was proud of his Norwegian heritage and had a fondness for pickled herring (Uff Da).
BJ is survived by his wife Marilyn, children Chris (Chelsea) of Madison and Ahren Aurit of Oregon, granddaughters Natalie and Irene, five brothers, three sisters, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Karen and Borghild, and brother Knute.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home, 109 Greenway Cross, Belleville, WI with Rev. Rebecca Ninke officiating. Military honors will be accorded.
A gathering of relatives and friends will precede the memorial service from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home in Belleville.
In lieu of flowers, donations in BJ’s name are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.
The family wishes to thank all the doctors, nurses, and staff at Badger Prairie Health Care and the William S. Middleton VA Memorial Hospital for their amazing care for BJ.
