Betty J. Baker, 81, of Platteville died on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at her home.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Platteville. Rev. Faustino Ruiz will officiate. Burial will be at Whig Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Melby-Bendorf Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, a parish scripture wake service will be held at 3:45 p.m., friends may also call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the church. Betty was born on June 23, 1931 in Madison, Wisconsin, daughter of Herman and Laura (Schuetz) Ring. She was united in marriage to Orville C. Baker on July 6, 1949 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Platteville. Orville preceded her in death on November 23, 2002. Betty was treasure for Ellenboro Township for 28 years. She worked with her husband, Orville, doing bookkeeping for Baker Iron Works, rural Platteville. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 4H, and Farm Bureau. She enjoyed playing cards in her card group and especially dancing. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, bird watching and doing floral arrangements. Betty had a deep faith and was very giving to her church and to others through her time and giving her baking to family and friends. She loved her family and Christmas, spending time with them and giving them gifts.

She is survived by five children, Gary (Sandy) Baker of Platteville; Judy (Bill) Soles of Platteville; Jan (Allan) Brame of Dixon, IL; Kim Lipska of Platteville; Jeff (Renee) Baker of Platteville; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Darlene White of Madison; Anita (Ray) Ballweg of Eau Claire; brother, Russell Ring of Madison; sister-in-law, Donna (Harlan) Stephens of Platteville; brothers-in-law, Lee (Marilyn) Baker of Joplin, MO; Larry (Marilyn) Baker of Tucson, AZ; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson, Eddy Lipska on October 29, 2009 and nephew, Tim Baker on October 13, 1968.
