Bertran T. Quamme

DeForest: Bertran T. Quamme, age 80, of DeForest, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was born October 15, 1931 in the Town of Bristol the son of Artman and Ann (Waagen) Quamme, Sr.
He was united in marriage to Phyllis Stromer on July 14, 1951 at Spring Prairie Lutheran Church in Keyeser. During their 45 years together, they loved going up north fishing, garage sailing, collecting, and spending time with family.
Bert farmed all his life. He milked cows until 1966, as well as driving milk truck, and doing custom spraying for Oconomowoc Canning Factory and several area farmers. He worked for a number of area companies, including ABS, Hamre Feeds and Farm Service. He sold insurance for Rural Insurance Co. and retired from Traugott Insurance in 1995, all while continuing to farm. He served on several boards, including Town of Windsor, Dane County Drainage Board, church council. He will be remembered for his conservation practices in order to protect the Yahara River watershed. His nieces and nephews will remember their years of helping with the tobacco harvests.
Bert is survived by his three sons, Phillip Quamme of Leeds Center, Vint (Donna) Quamme of Arlington, and Gregory Quamme of DeForest; two grandchildren, Vint P. and Rachel Quamme; a sister, Elaine Lange; two brothers-in-law, Don Moran and Don Steinbach; several nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis in 1996; sisters and brothers, Elizabeth Quamme, Artman, Jr., Dwaine, Dolores A. Smith, Dorothy Moran, Marjorie Ruehl and Carol Steinbach.

Peterson, Erica Becker; Oak Park Place staff and especially the K Team, Kathy and Karen; and Agrace HospiceCare; and the many caring friends and neighbors who stopped at the house with food and fellowship.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH, 220 S. Main Street, DeForest.
Burial will follow at Norway Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 23 from 4 – 7 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 6924 Lake Road, DeForest and again at church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
Memorials may be directed to the churches or charity of the donors’ choice.
