Beltline driver clocked at 119 mph needed bathroom, deputies say

MADISON, Wis. — A driver was clocked at 119 mph early Saturday morning on Beltline , according to the Dane County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy spotted the speeding driver near Old Sauk Road on Madison’s west side. The deputy was working under an alcohol enforcement grant funded by the Wisconsin Bureau of Transportation Safety.

The car was in a 55 mph zone, deputies said. The deputy took a picture of the reading.

The 24-year-old man driving the car told the deputy he was speeding because he had to go to the bathroom. His citation will cost him $515.50 and six points.

A FB post from the sheriff’s officer said it was an example of why deputies spend time on enforcement on the Beltline and urged drivers to slow down. Excessive speed is one of the leading causes for fatal and serious injury traffic crashes, according to the sheriff’s office.

The next special enforcement deployment is scheduled for Thursday.
