Baraboo leads local teams to state baseball

Baraboo had its 10th comeback win of the season beating La Crosse Central 8-7 at Copeland Park in La Crosse to advance to the WIAA State Division One baseball tournament next week.

Matt Munneke’s two-run single in the sixth inning gave the Thunderbirds the win and their first trip to state since 2000.

In Sun Prairie, Oconomowoc ended Sun Prairie’s three-year reign as Division One champions in a 5-0 sectional semifinal win. The Racoons then defeated Watertown 4-2 in the sectional final to advance to state.

Also in Division One, Janesville Craig stopped Verona in the sectional final, 10-0 in five innings.

In Evansville, River Valley earned a trip to state with a 14-5 win over Lodi in the sectional final.

Two teams will represent our area in Division Four. Rio advanced with a 9-7 win over Highland and Ithaca returns to state with an 11-1 win over Brookwood in the sectional final in Bangor.
