Bar owner tried saving man he had shot

Man found on east side pronounced dead

The owner of a Milwaukee tavern who fatally shot one of three men trying to rob the bar tried to save the man after shooting him.

Andy Kochanski says his first instinct was to shoot the masked men who barged into the Concertina Beer Hall early last Friday waving guns. He says his second instinct, as a former firefighter, was to perform CPR on the man he had just shot.

Twenty-three-year-old Carmelo Matoz-Arzola later died of a single gunshot wound. Court documents say the weapons two of the men carried were BB guns. But, Kochanski says they looked real to him.

WTMJ-TV  reported one of the two other men is in custody. Prosecutors don’t plan to file any charges against Kochanski, who they say, acted in self-defense.
