Badgers name field at Camp Randall Stadium for Barry Alvarez
The former UW football coach and AD left a legacy
MADISON, Wis. — The field at Camp Randall Stadium will be getting a new name: Barry Alvarez Field.
Wisconsin Athletics announced the new name at a ceremony Friday, meant to honor the former Badger football coach and director of athletics.
“Barry Alvarez has had an immeasurable impact on the UW-Madison campus,” Chancellor Rebecca Blank said. “And that type of career deserves recognition at the very highest level.”

Alvarez spent 32 years at UW, before retiring in June of 2021.
The Badgers played in 26 bowl games and won six Big Ten championships during Alvarez’s tenure.
“I’m honored,” Alvarez said during the ceremony. “That means so much to me to have my name on this field.”
The team plans to place the words “Barry Alvarez Field” in the northwest and southeast corners of the field starting next year.
