Badgers begin title defense, face Quinnipiac in first round

MADISON, Wis. — After a hard-fought regular season, it’s tournament time for Wisconsin volleyball.
The Badgers, ranked No. 3 in the nation, will take on the Quinnipiac Bobcats in the first round of the NCAA Tournament as they look to defend their National Championship.
The Bobcats come into the tournament with a 14-14 record but were able to automatically qualify after upsetting Fairfield to win their conference tournament.
Wisconsin is riding an 18-match winning streak dating back to September 30. The Badgers swept two-game series against No. 5 Nebraska and No. 11 Penn State during the streak and also beat No. 8 Ohio State and No. 9 Minnesota.
The Badgers automatically qualified for the NCAA Tournament on Friday after winning the Big Ten title for the fourth consecutive year. No. 1 Texas and No. 2 San Diego also automatically qualified by winning their respective conferences.
2022 marks Wisconsin and head coach Kelly Sheffield’s 10th-straight NCAA Tournament appearance. The Badgers have at least reached the Sweet Sixteen in every year of Sheffield’s tenure. Wisconsin were runners-up in 2013 and 2019, before finally bringing home the National Championship last year.
The Badgers will begin their title defense on Dec. 2.
