Badgers’ Austin Gomez named Big Ten Wrestler of the Week
MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin Badgers sophomore wrestler Austin Gomez was named the Big Ten Wrestler of the Week for his performance over the weekend where he defeated the NCAA’s top-ranked wrestler.
Gomez’s 9-3 upset decision over Cornell’s Yianni Diakomihalis on Saturday, Nov. 19 helped lead the No. 14 Badgers to a dual match victory over No. 7 Cornell. Diakomihalis is a three-time NCAA Division I champion, being named National Champion in 2018, 2019, and 2022. The loss was just the second of Diakomihalis’ career, who is now 93-2.
This is Gomez’s first Wrestler of the Week honor of his career.
