Badger Honor Flight flies 3000th veteran in final flight of the year

MADISON, Wis. — On Saturday, November 3, 91 veterans flew on the trip of a lifetime with Badger Honor Flights.
Among those was 72-year-old Vietnam veteran Gary Garlock, who is the 3000th veteran to fly with Badger Honor Flights.
“I was debating if I wanted to come or not,” Garlock said. “I’m glad I came.”
Garlock served when he was 18 to 22. He said the hardest part was, “I guess being away from family. There was a lot of hard times. It wasn’t fun.”
Garlock has seen the memorials in Washington, D.C. before, but never like this.
“Sometimes it’s hard not to cry, to be honest with you,” he said. “Seeing the names of a lot of great people who gave their lives. It makes me feel proud of our country and the flag.”
The day began around 4 a.m. and went until about 9 p.m. The vets were able to travel around D.C. to see a handful of war memorials.
During the flight back to Madison, the vets were given thank you letters to honor them for their service.
“It’s very nice. It’s nice to get thank you’s from people,” Garlock said. “Makes me feel good.”
This was the final Badger Honor Flight for this year.
