B. Gary Arseneau

B. Gary Arseneau, age 69, passed away at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison on Friday, April 1, 2016, surrounded by his loved ones. Gary was born Dec. 22, 1946, in Superior, Wisconsin to Bernard and Doris (Larsen) Arseneau.
He graduated from Superior Central High School in 1965. Gary earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin – Superior and Master’s Degree in Teaching from the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater. Gary moved to Madison in 1969 and dedicated a large part of his life to teaching and coaching youth. Gary was a beloved English teacher at Blackhawk Middle School (Gompers), where he spent 34 years as a 7th grade English teacher. He volunteered his evenings and weekends coaching his sons’ youth teams in football, basketball, and baseball.
Post-retirement, Gary continued to serve as a substitute teacher for the Madison Public Schools. Gary enjoyed spending his free time outdoors, walking, gardening, and sitting by the pool. He was an avid sports fan, cheering on the Packers, Badgers, and Brewers.
Gary is survived by his two sons, Tim (Sarah) Arseneau of Murrieta, California, and Greg (Allison) Arseneau of Naperville, Illinois; and his three grandchildren, Eric, Stella, and Griffin Arseneau; his sister, Debbie (Clark) Morse; and niece, Stacy. A private family service is planned.
A public visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2016. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dane County.
