Autopsy unable to ID human remains found in shed fire, officials say

An autopsy completed Wednesday came back inconclusive in identifying human remains found inside a shed that caught fire Monday morning, Jefferson County officials said.

Human remains were found inside a shed that caught fire in the town of Ixonia, but officials are working on additional DNA testing to identify the body, according to a release.

The state fire marshal was called Monday to two fires on the same property, according to the release.

Firefighters were called at 6:16 a.m. to W2355 Northside Road on a report of a structure fire. When they arrived, they found a shed and a residence were both on fire.

Officials said human remains were found inside the shed.

According to the release, the identity of the remains is undetermined, and the investigation continues.

The Ixonia Fire Department was assisted by 24 units from other local fire departments.
