A 28-year-old motorcyclist killed when he collided with a car in Sun Prairie Sunday afternoon is identified as a Marshall man. Robert C. Devine died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to a release from the Dane County medical examiner. Officers were called to the crash at 3:27 p.m. at the intersection of North Grand Avenue and Ironwood Drive.

What was supposed to be a prom night to remember took a heated turn for some Columbus High School students when their limo started fire Saturday night. The limo was headed down Wisconsin Avenue near the Capitol when the students noticed something was wrong. "We were getting really hot," senior Maddi Hendricks said. "We had the air all the way up and the fan all the way up."

A sure sign of spring, some of the chairs and tables appeared at the Memorial Union Terrace on Wednesday. The famous furniture appeared in only one area of the terrace. Workers at the terrace told News 3 the rest of the tables and chairs are expected by the weekend. Most of the union will close in September for a remodeling project that's expected to last through next winter.

A man fired shots inside his home early Friday morning after police responded to a report of a man having an emotional crisis, according to a report from Madison police. Police have named Tommie E. Evans, 31, of Madison, as a suspect. Madison police said officers were called to the 1000 block of Gammon Lane at 3:10 a.m. after family members left the home. Officers were told that the man inside was not armed, but they heard numerous shots fired inside the home.

For many students high school is a place of self-discovery, and for three former Janesville students those four years paved the way to their future career. Nicole Washington, Daniel Jackson and Jared Fox are the first of three former students to be hired as teachers through the district's multicultural scholarship. "No matter what life throws at you, you just stick to it. Set your eyes on the prize of what you want and you can do it," said Nicole Washington, teacher at Harrison Elementary School.

A California-based biotechnology company is expanding with a new facility in Madison that promises to bring more than 100 jobs, according to a news release. Gov. Scott Walker's office said Friday morning that PSC Biotech Corp.'s new subsidiary called BioTechnique is planned in University Research Park. BioTechnique will manufacture sterile injections for use in treating cancer at the 37,000-square-foot facility. The company is expected to be operating next year, and it's made a deal to create the 100 jobs within the next three years, according to Walker's news release. As part of the deal, the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. will provide a $1 million loan to help purchase equipment. The company is investing $11.5 million in the project, according to the news release.

A man arrested on a burglary warrant told police the stolen items officers found in his bag were bought from a hippie named "Shaggy." Madison police said Alexxander C. Crespo, 22, of Madison, was spotted walking on Regent Street early Monday morning after a homeowner on Commonwealth Avenue reported a thief inside his unlocked car. Crespo matched the description of the robber given by the homeowner, according to police. Officers said property stolen in other recent crimes was found in Crespo's backpack, including stolen credit cards and debit cards. Crespo said the items didn't belong to him and that he had bought them from a hippie downtown. He said he thought it was a good idea at the time.

The Rock County Health Department announced that a bat submitted to the state lab tested positive for rabies. Public Health Officer Karen Cain said in a release Friday that this is the second bat to be confirmed rabid in the county. The first rabid bat came from the Footville area. The second is from a downtown neighborhood in Janesville. In both cases, family pets were exposed, the Rock County health department said.

Some state lawmakers are saying the UW System shouldn't get the increases planned in the state budget as the fallout continues from a surplus that's shocked the legislature. Gov. Scott Walker had allocated an additional $181 million to the system that could now be in jeopardy. Lawmakers on the Joint Finance Committee begin voting Thursday on what to spend money on in the state budget. Both Democrats and Republicans have now called for an immediate tuition freeze across the system, but some lawmakers are saying a $650 million surplus means the UW maybe doesn't need as much money as it was going to get.

Southeastern Container says it plans to close its Beloit plant by May. The plastic bottle manufacturing plant employs about 50 people. The Beloit Daily News reported that a letter to employees Thursday says production is being moved to facilities in either Bowling Green, Ohio or Effingham, Ill.

A Monona family is dealing with the loss of two parents after an incident involving a private ambulance. The incident happened just after 5 p.m. Monday on South Fish Hatchery Road and Brendan Avenue. The elderly couple died within hours of each other early Tuesday afternoon.

The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development released the latest local unemployment figures for May on Wednesday. The report shows that 11 cities saw rates drop or have no change between April and May while 21 saw an increase. However, none of those rose more than roughly one half of a percentage point.
