Two armed men broke into an apartment on Madison’s west side early Saturday morning while three boys were inside watching television, police said.

The 11-year-old, 12-year-old and 13-year-old were watching TV inside an apartment in the 7000 block of Tree Lane around 1 a.m. when two masked men entered the apartment, according to a release.

Police detectives are trying to determine if the two men hit the wrong apartment, as it did not appear that the family they robbed had the money the gunmen were looking for, officials said.

The boys told officers the robbers waved handguns around while ransacking the apartment, looking for cash, according to the release.

The men took some of the family’s property before fleeing.

The two armed men are described as black and in their 20s. One is described as 6 feet 3 inches tall, with a dark complexion and a thin build. He was wearing a ski mask, hooded sweatshirt, black sweatpants and black boots. The second robber is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall, with a thin build and dark complexion. He was wearing a T-shirt over his face.
