Area health insurance provider may be struggling financially

A major health insurance provider in Madison may be on the brink of closing.

The Journal Sentinel reports Group Health Cooperative has lost millions of dollars since 2012.

Letters sent by six Madison-area unions to its members share concerns about the nonprofit organizations’ future.

About 82,000 people use GHC in the Dane County area.

GHC told the Journal Sentinel those letters were not correct and all of its financial losses were covered by its reserves.
