Up to 160 Applebee’s and IHOP restaurants are due to close, parent company DineEquity announced.
Between 105 and 135 Applebee’s are due to close, up from 40 to 60 restaurants the company announced the first quarter, USA Today reported. Between 20 and 25 IHOP restaurants also are due to close, up from 18.
The company will, at the same time, open 125 new Applebee’s and IHOP restaurants, USA Today said.
The restaurants will be closed based on store profitability, operational results and “brand quality standards,” the Los Angeles Times reported.
The exact locations of closing restaurants have not been determined.
There are 1,968 Applebee’s restaurants worldwide and 1,752 IHOPs, the Times reported.
