Amtrak proposes expanding services to Madison

MADISON, Wis. — Amtrak could see a massive expansion in the next couple of years, and that could include new rail service in Madison.

Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway announced Thursday that expanded service would include a new line to Madison, linking the city between Milwaukee and the Twin Cities.

“I think this is something that would be fantastic for our economy, for our region, for our state,” Rhodes-Conway said. “So absolutely in favor of this. We are already having conversations with USDOT, Amtrak, and other impactful cities.”

Currently, the closest Amtrak station to Madison is in Columbus, which can be reached by bus.

The proposal, which is included in President Biden’s jobs package, would also add at least 30 new lines across the country, with new service also to Green Bay and Eau Claire.
