Parade, events announced for UW Homecoming 2022

MADISON, Wis. — For the 112th year, UW alumni will return to Madison for Homecoming. This year’s celebration features a host of events beginning Wednesday, October 19.

The festivities kick off with a family-friendly virtual scavenger hunt. Participants can search for Badger-themed everyday objects, and share their findings on social media. The hunt begins at 5:35 p.m. on October 19, and the sharp-eyed searcher might even spot Bucky Badger.

On October 20, a special flock will ‘Fill the Hill.’ Beginning at 5 p.m. on the 20th and lasting through 6 p.m. on October 21, the famous flamingos will invade Bascom Hill. Every donation given to UW will add a flamingo to the hill. You can donate to fill the hill by visiting uwflamingos.com.

The Homecoming Parade is set for Friday, October 21, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. A block party at Alumni Park and a pep rally at the Memorial Union Terrace Stage will immediately follow the parade. Weather permitting, there will be fireworks over Lake Mendota at 8:45 p.m.

Members of the fraternities and sororities on campus will also show off their moves at the Multicultural Homecoming Yard Show from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Shannon Hall.

Saturday, October 22, is gameday. There will be a kickback event at the new Divine Nine Plaza from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with free refreshments.

The Multicultural Homecoming Tailgate and Game Watch Party will open at 2 p.m. at the Pyle Center. This year’s watch party has expanded, and attendees will now also be able to cheer on the Badgers from One Alumni Place rooftop and the Pyle Center Courtyard.

Kickoff for the Homecoming game is set for 2:30 p.m. CT, as interim head coach Jim Leonhard leads the Badgers against a strong Purdue squad that has won four of its last five games.
