Alton Marvin Mitmoen

MADISON – Alton Marvin ”Al” Mitmoen, age 88, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2022, at Oak Park Place Autumn Lane. He was born on Jan. 16, 1934, in Town of Forward, Wis., the son of Albert and Alpha (Swenson) Mitmoen.

Al attended Mount Horeb High School. He married Gladys VanFossen on March 23, 1957, in Dubuque, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Prior to retirement, Al enjoyed a career working for over 40 years as a lab technician at UW Hospital. He loved telling jokes and making people laugh, as well as going to auctions and flea markets.

Al is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gladys; children, Jeff Mitmoen, Randy (Tricia) Mitmoen, and Phyllis (Willie Lincoln) Larson; grandchildren, Jessica (Dustin) Hermanson, Justin (Laurel) Mitmoen, Travis Larson and Zach (Jenna) Larson; and five great-grandchildren with a sixth on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roger Mitmoen; and sister, Dorothy Desotell.

A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1150 Park St., Oregon, at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2022. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.  Interment will be held at Town of Rutland Cemetery.  Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
